Sophya Acosta is a PhD student in Arts and Techno-Aesthetics with a specialization in Light Art from the Tres de Febrero University and a Graduate in Stage Lighting Design from the National University of the Arts of Argentina. As a Lighting Designer, Sophya worked in America and Europe.
She has collaborated with global companies such as Cirque du Soleil and, more recently, Olympic Broadcasting Services, a company recognized worldwide for the official broadcast of the Olympic Games. Her Light Art Installations have been part of events such as La Noche de Los Museos (Bs As), La Nit dels Museus (BCN), and museums and galleries in Argentina and Spain.
In 2019, she founded Sophya Acosta Lighting Design Studio. The studio focuses on stage lighting, light art, and educational projects. With offices in Buenos Aires and Barcelona, the team has participated in international productions that focused on innovation and utilizing light as the primary creative material.
Since 2020, Sophya has directed, along with Luciana Suppicich, the research center focused on applied artistic lighting, LIGHT.LAB. Since its inception, the center has received more than 500 participants from more than 20 countries in its different courses, research laboratories, and masterclasses. In 2022, Sophya received the prestigious 40 under 40 award for her contribution to the lighting design industry. She is also a member of ADEA, APDI, IALD, AAI, and ASAEDE, and collaborates with Women in Lighting.
