Katia Kolovea

Katia Kolovea is a London-based multidisciplinary designer, fascinated by the interaction of light with space, people, and emotions. With a keen interest in new technologies and innovative ways to communicate messages through light, she has been part of a variety of international projects from stage lighting to events, private parties, high-end brand presentations, art installations, and more. The mission of every project is to create magical, immersive, and multi-sensory experiences through collaborative design. 

 Katia holds a Master’s degree in Architectural Lighting Design from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Architecture and Product Design from the Technological Institute of Athens, Greece. In 2019, in collaboration with the Urban Electric team, she received an [d]arc Best Light Art Scheme – High Budget for the immersive installation Where The Rainbow Ends, commissioned by Instagram. Earlier the same year, Katia received a 40under40 award in lighting accolades at the Lighting Design Awards in London and the best presentation award at the Young Lighter of the Year competition 2018 sponsored by the Society of Light and Lighting at Lux Awards. Her award-winning presentation was Light as a medium to enhance communication in Urban Spaces, part of her research which she is continuously developing until today.

Katia is passionate about public speaking, giving lectures and connecting people. Since the beginning of her career, she has been actively mentoring younger professionals to find their career path in the lighting industry. Currently, Katia is managing and curating the social media presence of the Women in Lighting project, collaborating with multiple industries on diverse projects, and raising awareness through her brand Archifos, about the importance of well-designed light in everyday life, work, and the environment at large.
