Randy Reid has played a prominent role in shaping the lighting market over the past decades. He began his career in 1983 with GE Lighting, serving in various capacities. In 2002, he founded the U.S. division of Metrolight, an Israeli-based startup, and later joined Silicon Valley startup LUXIM in 2009 as Vice President of Marketing.
Reid served as President of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) from 2002 to 2003 and has held several key leadership roles, including RVP Director, Treasurer, and Senior Vice President. IES is the recognized authority responsible for establishing technical lighting standards and recommended practices.
He was a member of the LIGHTFAIR Management Committee from 2001 to 2003 and served on the LIGHTFAIR Advisory Committee in 2006. Reid chaired the IES Annual Conference in 2010 and received the prestigious IES President’s Award in both 2011 and 2020. Most recently, he served as Section President for IES Nashville.
Reid served nearly five years as Executive Director of the National Lighting Bureau, a nonprofit organization promoting high-benefit lighting, before retiring in 2023. He currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Nuckolls Fund for Lighting Education.
Since 1999, Reid has published EdisonReport, a leading industry news platform. In 2020, he launched designing lighting (dl), a digital magazine focused on The Business of Lighting Design™. In 2023, he expanded with designing lighting global (dlg).
A retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, Reid was mobilized during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2002. He holds a B.S. from the University of Alabama and an M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee.
