John (Randy) Reid

Randy Reid has helped shape the lighting market over the past three decades. Reid began his career in 1983 with GE Lighting where he worked in various capacities. In 2002, he founded the US Division of Metrolight, an Israeli-based startup. In 2009, Reid joined LUXIM, at the time a Silicon Valley startup, in the position of Vice President, Marketing.
He served as President of the Illuminating Engineering Society in 2002-2003. He also held positions of RVP Director, Treasurer, and Senior Vice President. IES is the recognized technical illumination authority responsible for establishing recommended practices to the lighting community.
Further, Mr. Reid was a member of the LIGHTFAIR Management Committee, 2001-2003 and served on the LIGHTFAIR Advisory Committee in 2006. Mr. Reid was chairman for the IES Annual Conference in 2010 and received the President’s Award in 2011 and again in 2020. Reid recently served as the IES Section President for Nashville.
In February of 2019, Reid was appointed the Executive Director of the National Lighting Bureau—a non-profit organization dedicated to high benefit lighting.
Since 1999, Mr. Reid has published the EdisonReport, a site for news and information in the lighting industry. In 2020, Reid started a digital magazine, designing lighting (dl), focused on The Business of Lighting Design™.
Mr. Reid is a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and was mobilized during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2002, where he worked in the Surgeon’s office at the U.S. Army Reserve Headquarters. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama and an M.B.A. from the University of Tennessee.
