Jan Goderis is an interior architect and designer based in Ghent, Belgium. He graduated ‘cum Laude’ in Interior Design from the Sint-Lucas School of Arts and Architecture in Ghent (now KU Leuven).
Throughout his career, he has been working across various domains, including architecture, interior design, furniture, lighting, and objects, consistently exploring the boundaries of design.
His portfolio includes both private commissions and public projects, among them the restoration of
heritage landmarks such as the warehouse “Godfried,” with DMT architects, in order to house the offices of fashion designer Dries Van Noten.
In 2021, he established Jan Goderis Design Lab, a practice dedicated to his enduring passion for creating furniture, lighting, and objects with a distinctly architectural spirit.
His designs often combine sculptural presence with functionality, most notably in his lighting pieces that reveal a refined sensitivity to form, material, and atmosphere.
For Jan, light is not only illumination, but an essential element in defining space and emotion.
Recently, the studio has focused more on research into environmentally aware and circular production methods, integrating these principles (where possible), to support a more responsible design practice. This commitment aligns with his ongoing pursuit of clarity, proportion, and detail. Many of his designs have emerged from personal sketches and conceptual studies, evolving into refined works that balance imagination with precision.
His international recognition through awards such as the A’design Award (Italy); Prize Designs for Modern Furniture + Lighting Award (United States)… , with exhibitions, and publications underline the growing resonance of his vision and his contribution to contemporary design.
