Zach Blane, based out of New York City, approaches Lighting Design through the lens of a dramaturgical storyteller. With an art-forward, painterly, poetic perspective, he is someone who believes that lighting is the connective-tissue that brings the raw materials, of a multi-layered work, together into one cohesive visual.
Lighting is the emotional undercurrent that helps calibrate the ephemeral journey of an audience. Telling the viewer where to look, but most importantly, how to feel, in each specifically curated moment. Light has the capacity to be able to expose what is not said, and he believes, as an artist, there is great power, and responsibility, in that.
Specializing in world-premiere new works, and the reimagining of beloved classics, Zach Blane has created designs across a wide range of stages and genres. Referred to as “peerless” in the press, his credits range from the legendary Carnegie Hall, Wicked, in Concert televised for American Broadcast, multiple productions with OperaSofia in Bulgaria, and international projects in Spain, Mexico, Poland, and extensive work throughout the United States.
Each artistic production reflects his dedication to world-building—using light not simply to illuminate but to reveal psychological subtext, and the hidden meaning of a story and a shared moment. His work seeks to entertain, heal, and hold a mirror to humanity—leaving audiences reflective, transformed, and inspired.
