The LIT Design Awards ™ was created to recognize the efforts of talented international lighting product designers and lighting implementers. We believe that lighting is both an art and a science, and it is one of the most important elements of design. The LIT Awards was envisioned to celebrate creativity and innovation in the fields of lighting products and applications.
Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping the mood and ambiance of a space, and can be used to highlight and draw attention to key architectural features. Architectural lighting is a multidisciplinary field that involves the integration of lighting, electrical, and mechanical systems, as well as design principles, to create a visually pleasing and functional environment that enhances the human experience. The Architectural Lighting Design of the Year Award is a recognition of the significant role that lighting plays in the success of architectural design.
ARCHITECTURAL LIGHTING DESIGN OF THE YEAR – PROFESSIONAL
The Architectural Lighting Design of the Year Award recognizes the people and practices striving towards excellence in lighting design implementation and application. The lighting director, architect, electrical engineer, interior designer, landscape architect, urban planner, etc., each creates the mood and ambiance of space with their lighting implementation. There would be no architectural, interior design, or landscape design achievements without the right lighting – which is the reason we want to recognize this essential part of the design process through the LIT Awards.
The Architectural Lighting Design of the Year recipient will receive the coveted LIT Awards Trophy, the project will be showcased to a global audience, be featured in the LIT Awards annual Book of Design, and be given the opportunity to share more of their vision and project in winner’s interviews. Additionally, the winning lighting design implementer will be promoted in a newsletter to 100,000 lighting and design professionals and potential clients worldwide, receive coverage on our website throughout the year, and critical acclaim by our distinguished panel of judges. SUBMISSION DETAILS
Entries can be submitted as conceptual designs, in progress, or as completed projects. The only restriction is that entries or completed projects must be no more than 5 years old. Submissions can be made as a Professional or as a Student.
Winners are chosen based on a single project – not for a body of work.
The LIT Design Awards competition is open to anyone aged 18+ residing anywhere in the world. Professional entries will be judged against other professionals and student entries against other students.
The evaluation process for entries to the LIT Lighting Design Awards is based on various judging criteria that are constantly adapted to new technical, social, economic, and ecological requirements. These criteria are not comprehensive and not all criteria apply to each product. They simply provide an orientation framework and basis for judging, which is complemented by each juror’s expertise and socio-cultural background.
Each member of the Jury is passionately committed to providing a fair evaluation. Jury members are assigned categories based on their specific backgrounds and expertise. All projects are viewed and judged randomly and anonymously to ensure unbiased and fair judging.
The judging criteria include the following:
Innovation — does the product provide something new to the market or supplement/improve an existing product?
Aesthetics — form, shape, color, texture, finishing, the material used, etc.
Functionality — ease of use, safety, maintenance, etc.
Ergonomics — the product’s interaction with the user
Durability — the quality and longevity of the design
Impact — the benefit delivered to the user and/or society by the product
Utility — does the product meet the intended purpose and needs of the user?
The reality of production — how realistic is it, technically and economically, to develop and market this product large scale?
Emotional quotient — in addition to fulfilling its practical purpose, does the product create a sense of enjoyment and satisfaction?
