Entry Description

Named “Jewel of a Theatre,” the 70,000 sqf. Mid-Valley Performing Arts Center is a $45 million performance venue, hosting a 439-seat proscenium theater & a 212-seat studio theatre. Though situated next to the highway, there is an imbued silence as you enter. Architectural lines, forms, & materials are harmonized in poetic composition. The main intent for lighting was to capture, accentuate and express this essence of space & atmosphere.

Both interior & exterior illumination strive to present perfectly balanced, ordered visual aesthetics in each of the DMX-programmed scenes, while considering resonance with the architectural colors and materials.

To further add value & revenue-generating capacity, tunable lighting was implemented in the rehearsal room. This system allows for the space to be visually balanced (color, intensity) with daylight, functioning as a rehearsal space while also offering the possibility of low lit, warm hospitality ambiences for events.

A technical challenge in this project was lighting balcony curves in the proscenium theatre, which was lit with a side emitting fixture (LN21) in a tightly controlled detail. Special access for maintenance was designed.
