Entry Description

Vouliagmeni is a seaside suburb that lies at the heart of the Athenian Riviera. Nimfon square has been its central square for almost 4 decades and was recently redesigned by Athens Creative.

The Lighting Concept by Danilof studio was based on creating three lighting layers that were seamlessly integrated into the landscape architecture.

1st Layer: Minimalistic pole lighting systems in the periphery of the square create a safe, warm and continuous luminous environment at the pavements and busy zebra crossings.

2nd Layer: The main - inner part of the square has no lighting over waist level in order to ensure high visual comfort and to allow for great views. Lighting is strategically integrated into the furniture creating a luminous composition that reveals the form and structure of the new square.

3rd Layer: The volume and texture of the existing and the new trees is reinterpreted creating a subtle but spectacular environment for the user.

A new nocturnal landscape was created for Nimfon Square. Since the completion of the scheme each evening there are more residents and visitors that use the public space.

Lighting is an integral part of landscape design.
