Entry DescriptionMGM Healthcare is India’s first USGBC LEED Platinum-certified super-specialty hospital, with lighting that supports doctors and therapists during treatments, and promotes the healing process in patients with an increased sense of wellbeing. Preliminary brief was to elicit certain emotional responses from hospital users with functionality and style of an inviting yet professional hospitality environment. Lighting had to reflect ethos of healing and sense of serenity: lobby lighting should not be overabundant to cause feelings of an emergency room; corridor lighting should not cause direct glare while moving patients in stretchers or wheelchairs; cafeteria lighting should be bright owing to its high-intensity hours of operation that keeps staff and visitors awake and alert; administration office lighting should be optimum for all paper and screen work. Lighting for training rooms that double-up as an auditorium space required flexibility to meet dynamic requirements of meeting, learning, sharing ideas and collaborating. The city’s tallest green wall nestled under a natural skylight required supplemental illumination for certain sections not receiving desired illumination.
