We created a lamp using metal spinning.

Metal spinning is a processing technique that uses a special machine to transform a sheet of metal into a 3 dimensional shape. We applied this metal Spinning technology to the design of lighting fixtures that are familiar to us.

Normally, metal plates are used, but the highly skilled craftsmen add a spinning process to perforated metal plates. The spinning process stretches the perforated metal, changing the regular perforation pattern to create special patterns. Furthermore, the light that leaks out from the special pattern creates beautiful patterns of light and shadow.

The pattern changes depending on the angle at which the perforated metal plate is bent using the spinning process. By transforming existing perforated metal or original perforated metal through the spinning process, a variety of patterns can be created and the possibilities of this design are endless.

The spinning process transforms the perforated metal plate into a hemisphere, creating a 3 dimensional special pattern that appears differently depending on the viewing angle. The light that leaks out from the special pattern creates beautiful patterns of light and shadow. Each pattern is projected onto the surrounding floor, walls, and ceiling.

We believe that Perforated Metal Spinning Lamp will be an advanced design that will add elegance to a variety of spaces.

Sustainability Approach

The current lack of successors and the decline in the number of engineers are also significant in the metalworking field, which is also an issue in other fields. By applying this metal spinning technique from the perspective of product design and incorporating it into modern design, we hope to recognize this technology among people of all generations. By creating a lamp that combines metal spinning with lighting fixtures that are familiar to us, we can incorporate it into our daily lives. The amazing skills of our engineers are irreplaceable. Through this project, we will convey the appeal of metal processing technology and think about future sustainability from the perspective of passing on skills.
