Entry Description

This pendant light embodies the idea of growing from where it breaks, inspired by the Eaton Fire that struck California this January.

While walking through Altadena—a community deeply affected by the fire—I came across a broken branch. I placed a light where it had split, allowing warmth to shine through the damage. The piece balances wood-like texture with organic movement, evoking a quiet sense of calm, safety, and resilience.
Sustainability Approach

This pendant light is conceived with sustainability at its core. While the prototype is 3D printed in PLA, future iterations are intended to use recycled wood filament sourced from fire-damaged trees—repurposing lost material into meaningful, functional design. The use of additive manufacturing reduces material waste, and the design’s modularity allows for local production and easy disassembly, supporting a low-impact lifecycle.
