Entry DescriptionArc ZERO: Eclipse transforms simple, elemental materials into a sublime experience of space, water, light and atmosphere. An 8-meter polished stainless-steel half-ring rises from a custom reflecting pool, its circular form completed in water. At night, the ring appears to float impossibly in space, radiating illuminated mist that shifts with wind and humidity, evoking both ethereal fire and ghostly shadow. The piece evolves Tapscott’s earlier “Nimbus” works, emphasizing a more visual dialogue with the surrounding landscape. Its bespoke diamond-profile ring minimizes self-reflection, deepening immersion, while the framing of the iconic bridge beyond integrates the work into Seoul’s skyline. Visible from afar, even to passing cars on the nearby freeway, the Eclipse creates a moment of quiet coexistence between viewer and environment—technology in service of natural phenomena. This permanent iteration extends the Arc ZERO series, which has been installed worldwide and recently honored with a CODA award. Commissioned by The Ton, Arc ZERO: Eclipse anchors the rooftop garden of this new mixed-use development as both landmark and sanctuary, uniting light, water, and atmosphere in a work that dissolves the boundary between art and site.
Sustainability ApproachWater consumption has been minimized through careful programming and fine-tuning of the system, while the lighting element is energy efficient LED.
