Komorebi (Jap. sunlight that filters through the leaves of trees) is an innovative ceiling light installation that recreates the moving play of light rays through a canopy of leaves. The calming and poetic dynamics of natural light and shadow are transferred into the interior with high aesthetics. Komorebi offers outstanding quality of light and adapts to the respective outdoor light in terms of color and brightness (HCL). The installation is self-sufficient and can be conveniently controlled via the home automation system.
The lighting system was first developed for use at SAP Labs Munich and does not rely on any commercially available media or lighting solution. In order to implement this unique combination of lighting and media technology in such a high-quality form, the system had to be developed from scratch. The control technology and micro media server as well as the combination of individually controllable triple white LEDs with a light quality of over CRI 90 and a 16-bit control protocol are both uniquely developed solution for that luminaire.
The moving interplay of light and shadow has a noticeably positive effect on the quality of the space. The dynamics of the light create a lively, concentrated atmosphere that radiates calm despite its movement.
Sustainability ApproachThe dynamic light of Komorebi makes the illuminated surrounding areas appear brighter. This perceived brightness exceeds the average brightness of the illumination, resulting in a lower overall need for illumination. The required brightness decreases, resulting in energy savings.
Additionally, Komorebi's poetic reference to nature highlights the beauty of natural light phenomena. It reminds us of the origin of light and enhances our relationship with, and appreciation of, our irreplaceable biosphere.
Company DescriptionStudiobauer is a studio for mediatecture and light art. The studio develops and produces media art installations for architecture, exhibition spaces and art contexts. The studio represents a design philosophy in which digital media is highly integrated into the physical environment. The dialog between the digital and physical world is thus elevated to the central point of action of the works.The studio was founded in 2015 by media artist Thorsten Bauer and works primarily in close cooperation with internationally active architecture firms.
