Entry Description

“Kurage" is a lighting fixture made up of various sizes of chochin, large and small, cut into rings and stacked on top of each other to form a single form. The soft light spreading through the Japanese paper creates a beautiful gradation as it moves upward, reminding one of a kurage (jellyfish) drifting slowly in the sea, hence the name "Kurage".
The light's height can be freely adjusted by positioning the sphere attached to the cord, so the light's visibility and intensity can be changed as desired. When not in use, it can be folded like a chochin for compact storage.
The warmth of Japanese paper and the variable design combine to bring a new look to your space.
Sustainability Approach

"Kurage" is a lighting fixture that pursues sustainability in every aspect, from material selection to structural design and transportation methods. Applying the traditional Japanese lantern structure, it folds compactly when not in use, thereby improving transportation efficiency and contributing to the reduction of packaging materials and carbon dioxide emissions. When installed, it gives a rich sense of volume to the space and is flexible enough to be unfolded when needed.

Japanese washi paper, which is highly biodegradable and has both strength and delicacy, is used as the material. It is an environmentally friendly material that returns to nature after use, and is durable enough to be used in the restoration of cultural properties. It can also be partially repaired like a patchwork when damaged, extending the life of the product and contributing to the reduction of waste.
