Entry Description

UMMC ARENA is a key venue in Yekaterinburg, located on the Iset River embankment and accommodating up to 15,000 spectators. Our goal is to create a new lighting landmark for the city and revive the location's significance within the urban environment.

The lighting design features a dynamic light ring along the arena's perimeter, inspired by the building's architecture and the company logo. This illumination enhances the overall image and provides a comfortable lighting environment. The project includes a comprehensive multilayered system that integrates a media façade, ambient lighting, illumination of the media ring, accent signage, lighting for the surrounding area, decorative lighting for the stylobate, and zenith projectors.

The geometry of the façade consists of individual panels, necessitating mathematical calculations for the placement of 42,828 pixels and hundreds of light fixtures to achieve the ideal evening appearance. Each panel has a unique size and pixel angle, accentuating the architecture and enabling thematic content projection, creating spectacular shows synchronized with multimedia systems.

Safety measures included equipment tests and brightness measurements, the implementation of anti-glare accessories, and ability to reduce brightness.The facility's lighting transformed the space, creating an atmosphere for evening strolls and high-level events.

Sustainability Approach

The lighting of the surrounding area creates a comfortable lighting environment and high-quality functional lighting for users. To illuminate the stylobate site, multicomplex aluminum anodized supports of neutral gray color with a height of 10 meters with dimmable lamps with a color temperature of 3000K were used.

At the mockup stage, comprehensive tests of all types of lighting equipment used were carried out and the brightness of the facade was measured, anti-blind accessories were used for all equipment, since it is located near the apartments. It was important for us to confirm safety for people in the evening, since comfort and environmental friendliness of solutions are a priority for us. In addition, after 23:00, scenarios are programmed to reduce the brightness of the facade by 30% in order not to damage the surrounding flora and fauna in the embankment area.
