Nestled in the serene hills of North Salem, New York, we crafted a luminous retreat for a weekend compound, a serene escape from Manhattan’s pace. Our subtle lighting design enhances the property’s gardens, driveway, and brick architecture with artistry. At the gated entry, recessed fixtures highlight intricate ironwork and stone pillars, creating a welcoming threshold. Discreet tree-mounted moonlighting, with advanced glare control, bathes the driveway and walkways in an ethereal glow, mimicking a full moon for safe navigation and enchanting ambiance. Statuesque boxwood clusters along the drive are softly illuminated by moonlight, their forms glowing as natural sculptures. A 100-ft oak off the dining terrace, uplighted with adjustable fixtures, stands as a radiant beacon visible property-wide, enhancing safety and atmosphere. Brick house and accessory buildings, plus a walled courtyard, are accented with warm uplighting, extending the home’s glow. Smart controls allow scene adjustments, blending function and magic for memorable evenings.

Sustainability Approach

Sustainability was central, aligning with the clients’ desire to preserve the estate’s tranquility and natural harmony. Energy-efficient, warm-toned LEDs reduce consumption and maintenance while blending with the serene ambiance. Precise optics and glare-controlled fixtures minimize light pollution, safeguarding starry skies and nocturnal wildlife, crucial to the retreat’s peaceful allure. Smart controls with timers and dimming optimize energy use, reflecting the clients’ commitment to low-impact living. Lighting avoids disrupting native flora and fauna, ensuring ecological balance. This eco-conscious design supports the clients’ vision of a tranquil, sustainable haven that nurtures both nature and spirit.
