Entry DescriptionIndividual LED-solution for a listed entertainment centre
As part of an extensive refitting project, the existing fluorescent tubes in the heritage-listed multipurpose halls of Kulturwerk am See in Norderstedt were replaced with modern LED technology. The particular challenge lay in preserving the original lighting concept, with its distinctive light distribution characteristics and fixture layout, while simultaneously incorporating state-of-the-art technologies.
A key feature of the chosen luminaire is its light distribution: the diffuser disperses light over more than 180°, creating the characteristic glow of fluorescent tubes behind the profile.
And while the look of the installation stays as requested for listed buildings the new RGBW leds can add a whole new range of colors and pixels to the building.
The result is a successful blend of heritage-sensitive renovation and contemporary lighting technology. The new lighting concept preserves the architectural identity of the halls while enhancing their technical capabilities — much to the delight of both visitors and event organizers.
Sustainability ApproachTo meet the requirements of heritage preservation, MeNo GmbH implemented a fully integrated solution: the existing housings were retained and fitted with specially manufactured LED components. The system used black-anodized Profile18 equipped with D25-500 Cut RGBW strips and covered with matching D36 diffusers. Four different profile lengths were used in total. For precise installation into the existing infrastructure, the profiles were CNC-machined and fitted with threaded bolts.
In addition to replacing fluorescent tubes with a product manufactured in Cologne, Germany, using 100% wind energy —designed for longevity and low maintenance— the integrated system also features the energy-saving "Global Standby" mode.
