Entry DescriptionHarvest of Light is a monumental light art installation created for the lobby of the SOMA Riverside Hotel in Phnom Penh. Inspired by the handwoven hemp nets of traditional fishing communities, the work transforms a familiar maritime symbol into a suspended sculpture that captures the poetry of movement and light. Crafted entirely from stainless steel, the structure ascends through the hotel’s atrium with an organic, wave-like rhythm, its interwoven geometry suggesting both the strength and delicacy of the sea.
The piece comes alive through a constellation of crystal spheres that punctuate the mesh, refracting a warm, golden glow that shifts gently with each perspective. At the base, the net gathers into a denser formation where a cluster of luminous orbs appears caught within its folds — a symbolic “harvest” of light. This moment of capture transforms the sculpture into a living narrative: light balls “fished” from above, falling into the net like radiant treasures from the sea. The result is a captivating spatial experience that draws the eye upward while grounding the viewer in a sense of awe and reflection.
Beyond its aesthetic presence, Harvest of Light is a poetic homage to the ocean and a reminder of our deep interdependence with it. Each crystal represents the delicate beauty of marine life — the true diamonds of our planet.
Sustainability ApproachThe installation carries a quiet call for sustainability and ocean preservation, urging awareness of the damage caused by plastic pollution. In the calm of the hotel lobby, Harvest of Light becomes more than a sculpture — it is an immersive, emotional encounter where art, architecture, and light merge in harmony with nature.
