Entry Description

The Borgo di Farfa lighting design reinterprets the dialogue between history, landscape, and community within the medieval village of Farfa, in the Lazio region of Italy. The scheme reveals the architectural depth and textural authenticity of the site while preserving its serene nocturnal ambience. A thoughtful layering of light guides residents and visitors through stone passageways and courtyards, accentuating key architectural forms without intruding upon the village’s historic character. Creative use of subtle colour and theatrical gobo projection evokes the natural essence of Lazio—the interplay of olive groves, earthy tones, and shifting light patterns—bridging the built environment with its surrounding landscape. The result is a timeless composition of shadow and luminosity that honours the Borgo’s heritage while gently reawakening its connection to place.
