Entry DescriptionThe lighting design at the Du Lac nursing home aims to create a welcoming and functional atmosphere by enhancing orientation through dynamic lighting, supporting calm, restful areas, and adding character with focused accents. The well-being and sense of security of the residents are always at the center.
PROJECT
The Du Lac nursing home in St. Moritz combines care rooms, age-appropriate apartments, and a public restaurant with an outdoor area, offering a versatile living environment for those in need of care and individuals who wish to live independently while using the home’s facilities. The lighting design’s main objective was to support the architecture in creating a welcoming and functional environment, balancing the diverse needs of the residents. Key goals included promoting orientation through dynamic lighting, creating calm, restful areas, and adding character through focused accents, all while fostering a sense of community and security.
SOLUTION APPROACH
The lighting concept for the nursing home was developed with a focus on both functional and emotional needs, enhancing spatial quality and aesthetics. Emphasis was placed on vertical surfaces in central areas to improve the visual structure of the spaces and make it easier to navigate. This approach enhanced the perceived spaciousness, making the environment more inviting and helping residents find their way.
Sustainability ApproachThe lighting concept for the retirement home follows a sustainable and efficient approach. It relies exclusively on energy-saving LED technology and provides only as much light as needed, avoiding unnecessary energy use. Furthermore, daylight is thoughtfully integrated into the overall concept, reducing the need for artificial lighting and enhancing the natural rhythm of the interior spaces. Through intelligent zoning and dimming strategies, the lighting adapts to different needs throughout the day-ensuring comfort, safety, and a reduced environmental footprint.
