Project Location 1 St. Sophia of the Divine Wisdom Square / 4 Kozelnytska Street, Lviv, Ukraine
Entry DescriptionThe lighting design for the St. Sophia Cathedral is intended to emphasize the spiritual grandeur and beauty of the sacred space, focusing on the dome and altar area. The lighting solutions harmoniously interact with the enamel mosaics, frescoes, and stained glass, highlighting their uniqueness and sacred significance.
The lighting is implemented on three levels. Diffused light evenly illuminates the icons and frescoes, creating a cohesive visual effect. Accent lighting highlights the details of the paintings, enhancing their expressiveness. Low-power, non-optical luminaires create delicate glimmers, accentuating the relief and texture of the enamel, highlighting its gold and glass elements.
The stained glass is backlit, simulating natural light after sunset, while non-optical sources add a starry sky effect. A narrow-beam spotlight directs its beam at the altar, accentuating key elements during services. Combined with the smoke from the censer, this beam creates an atmosphere of divine unity.
The project uses warm light tone with a high color rendering index.
