I. Project Overview
HOTEL DUA is a five-star design hotel located at the intersection of Dawan Road and Wenhua Alley in Kenting, Taiwan. Developed under a 15-year-long BOT (Build-Operate-Transfer) public-private partnership, this project reflects a profound commitment to sustainability and local cultural integration.
Our lighting concept positions light as a language of dialogue—an emotional and temporal medium that poetically interprets time and space. From architecture to landscape and interior, the entire design strategy integrates natural light, seasonal rhythms, and environmental responsiveness into a coherent and immersive lighting experience.
II. Design Intent & Concept
Titled “Poetics of Starlight,” our concept draws inspiration from Kenting’s unique coastal climate, intense sunlight, southern winds, and stargazing topography. The use of geometrically shaped, colorful sail-like sunshades transforms sunlight into an expressive filter, gently modulating space and mood throughout the day.
Light is not merely functional here—it becomes a skin of emotions. During the day, sails diffuse natural hues like floating filters. At night, they softly glow and form the visual ‘surface’ of the building’s emotional atmosphere.

- All lighting is LED-based (CRI >95) with integrated smart controls (DMX/DALI + sensors).
- Energy use is reduced by over 55% annually.
- Outdoor lighting complies with International Dark-Sky Association (IDA) standards, minimizing ecological impact.
- Clerestory and skylight daylighting strategies eliminate daytime artificial lighting in common areas.
- Nighttime lighting is precisely targeted, with minimal interference to both the environment and architecture.
