Entry Description

As a private residential the project was a very personal journey for our client and their family.

Situated overlooking the historical Covent Garden market this 2 storey property was an amazing location with a unique historical background to such a renowned part of the city's heritage.

Our client was keen for us to create an adaptable lighting scheme which focused on the buildings internal architecture and the materials selected for the overall lighting intent.

We worked closely with the architects to carefully select the correct products which could be mounted within the ceiling structure, allowing to provide accent lighting but not visually disrupt the overall aesthetic and ensure visual comfort for all seating positions.

We sought to employ minimal detailing except for key elements, such as back lighting exposed shear fabric curtains, up lighting to timber slats in the main stairwell which provide a strong visual element upon entry and wash lighting to vertical surfaces, coupled with carefully positioned decorative luminaires ensuring a cosy ambience throughout the apartment.

Elegant individually mounted pendants provide visual interest over the main dining area, with concealed lighting to the bespoke bar enhanced the atmosphere of the space.

Integrated lighting control with AV/IT allowed the client to select lighting scenes as required for multiple functions.
Sustainability Approach

As a private residential, a key priority was ensuring low maintenance for all lighting elements, therefore we selected luminaires which could have components replaced on site.

Individual downlight or spotlight modules can be replaced rather than the entire fixture body.

Careful zoning of lighting created efficiency through lighting scenarios linked with AV/IT for entertaining or day to day usage, such as cooking or cleaning functions.

Although an external terrace is part of the property we deliberately chose not to install any permanent external lighting, so as to reduce the overall energy footprint, but also to reduce light pollution, and encourage night vistas, relying instead on battery powered local sources when using the terrace.
