Project Location Xujiapeng Street, Wuchang District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province?China
Entry Description"The project sits at Wuhan’s Wuchang Bay, a hub of finance, industry, commerce, and urban life. Envisioned as an “open community and urban gathering ground,” it aims to be a landmark international waterfront district along the Yangtze River.
Using “three-dimensionality,” the design expands the urban fabric via sky bridges, underground links, and multi-level circulation. Its “multi-dimensional” approach enriches experiences with layered, harmonious encounters.
Anchored by the river, the architecture incorporates water—from riverside paths to courtyards, waterfalls, and reflective pools. Lighting animates these spaces: shimmering across ceilings and façades, sometimes vibrant, sometimes calm, echoing the environment’s character.
A grand overhanging canopy forms the brightest focal layer, extending into the 10-meter-high lobby. Façade walls and greenery form a second layer, subtly highlighted to create a visual scroll. Water features and planting beds at ground level make the third layer, with delicate illumination emphasizing textures and material details.
Fixtures are hidden within water, greenery, and sculpture, diffusing light upward and reflecting on the canopy, turning horizontal water into a vertical dimension. The overall lighting is soft and serene, guiding people from the city into a luminous sanctuary.
Sustainability ApproachSustainability is integral to this project. Lighting uses long-life, low-energy LEDs with high efficiency and minimal maintenance, reducing operational carbon. Fixtures are concealed in architecture and landscape for easy refitting without structural waste. Intelligent controls adjust brightness by time, activity, and natural light, ensuring energy is used only when needed. Recyclable materials and modular components support circular economy principles, while careful placement minimizes light pollution and protects the Yangtze waterfront’s ecology. These measures lower carbon footprint, extend lifecycle, and create a resilient, future-ready lighting environment.
