Entry DescriptionStudio City Cinema in Macau features advanced audiovisual technology, including Dolby Atmos sound and Dolby Vision HDR. As the only Dolby Cinema in Hong Kong and Macau, it delivers an immersive experience. The lighting design was crafted to enhance energy and drama for the movie experience.
The client requested a simple, fast-to-execute lighting design that complements the dynamic interior, supports gala events, and ensures functional, easily maintainable circulation lighting. Key areas like kiosks and box offices were to be highlighted.
The design referenced cinema fundamentals, using light patterns and reflections to craft a dynamic atmosphere. The entrance features oval light rings with RGBW pixel control, a mirrored ceiling, and reflective floors to amplify effects. Downlights highlight counters and create dramatic contrasts. Ticket vending machines feature backlit metal mesh for attention-grabbing detail.
The main corridor uses vaulted ceilings with cove lighting to highlight arches and textures. Cinema entrances feature glowing vertical glass disks. Stair lighting combines low-level coves and handrail highlights, while neon-style LED ropes follow ceiling curves.
Within cinemas, dramatic lighting contrasts light and shadow. Narrow beams graze walls, enhancing triangular patterns. Water-effect projectors create shimmering
Sustainability ApproachThe lighting design of Studio City Cinema seamlessly integrates sustainability into a high-end, visually dynamic project. Energy-efficient technologies like LED lighting, RGBW pixel control, and dimmable systems reduce energy consumption while maintaining impactful effects. Durable materials and low-maintenance systems minimize waste and operational costs. Reflective surfaces, such as mirrored ceilings and water-effect finishes, amplify light efficiently. The adaptable design supports multi-functionality, catering to diverse events without requiring additional infrastructure. By balancing environmental responsibility, economic efficiency, and social well-being, the project sets a benchmark for sustainable lighting in entertainment spaces.
