Entry Description

A large-scale AV installation titled Deus Ex Machina was created for the main stage of Rave Rebels—Belgium’s largest indoor rave, which brings together over 30,000 spectators across two days at Brussels’ ING Arena.

The concept revolved around deconstruction—explored through fragmented forms, visual chaos, and immersive stage design. Scaled up nearly 18 times, the installation transformed the arena into a vast landscape of digital decay.

The result is Deus Ex Machina—a living supercomputer, filled with shattered screens and hanging wires, that visualizes a state of digital disintegration. As the music began, the supercomputer awakened with dynamic generative content and light. The installation combines thermal camera input and live DJ set streams, enhanced with real-time effects.

The stage design reinterpreted techno aesthetics through sculptural fragmentation: massive trusses supported layered LED meshes pierced by beams of light, their deliberate gaps creating depth and rhythm. This interplay of broken surfaces and searing light echoed the venue’s industrial architecture, turning the stage into a controlled explosion—a visceral embodiment of digital deconstruction.
