Entry Description

"Light Rings" is a permanent light art sculpture located in a park. The artwork aimed to represent both the flowing and the still aspects of water within the piece, referencing the historical geography of the site and hinting at its future potential. "Light Rings" features two interconnected circular forms constructed from stainless steel. These circles delineate two distinct spatial zones: an inner area representing "motion" and an outer area embodying "stillness." The outer ring has a mirror-like finish, reflecting the sky and surrounding environment, creating a dynamic interplay between the artwork and its context. The inner space incorporates LED lighting and imagery to evoke a sense of movement and transformation through light and shadow. The lighting design plays a crucial role in enhancing its conceptual meaning and visual experience, particularly during the evening and nighttime. This implies that the lighting is not static but likely changes in intensity, pattern, or even color over time, contributing to the artwork's dynamic quality. Measuring 10 meters in length, 5 meters in width, and 3.7 meters in height, "Light Rings" symbolizes "circulation" and "endless life." Whether viewers are positioned inside or outside the artwork, the intention is to provide a multi-faceted experience of time and space through its design and the interplay of light and reflection.
Sustainability Approach

As a permanent public artwork installed in 2023, it's likely that environmental considerations, to some extent, would have been part of the design and material selection process, aligning with contemporary architectural and design trends that increasingly emphasize sustainability. The artwork is also incorporation of LED lighting which is generally considered energy-efficient compared to traditional lighting methods, thus reducing the artwork's energy consumption during nighttime illumination.
