Entry DescriptionGhostpoets is an A/V luminous installation at the Buchenwald Memorial in Weimar (DE) that transforms the seven relief stelae, silent witnesses to history’s inhumanity, into a vivid exploration of trauma and healing, radiating along a path extending over 200m at the memorial site.
We embedded cinematic storytelling into the video objects which are re-projected onto the three-dimensional objects, adhering to the surfaces of the artwork and opening the infinite gateway between the virtual and the real. The light quality of each projection is ultimately designed to enhance the “plasticity” of the original sculptures. The whole concept reflects the psychological impact of trauma, which disrupts linear time, trapping us in cycles of flashbacks, much like time travel. Each stele is illuminated with distinct themed colours, chosen based on the scientific principle of light composition, with each wavelength corresponding to a specific emotional and narrative tone in the journey of healing. As visitors move through the installation, they symbolically pass through time, experiencing both the retelling of trauma and a gateway to transformation. Ghostpoets aims not only to present what the stelae depict, but also to uncover what remains unshown or even concealed.
Sustainability ApproachThe integrated playback system blends seamlessly with the natural landscape. The choice for Eco-friendly short throw Full HD laser projector ( mercury-free light source ) to display was the most energy efficient way to bring light to the sculpture.
The whole artwork was powered by the electrical generator (no fossil energy generators were used) lowering its carbon footprints.
Every phase of a production, from design to logistics towards final installation, was developed with sustainability in mind.
