Entry DescriptionThe interplay of architecture, design, and light elevates the visual aesthetic at 80 New Bond Street to a whole new level.
At the entranceway to The Burlian, the development's new high-end workplace proposition, concealed lighting elevates the materials with minimal visual impact. An arch of stone frames the threshold and reveals a walkway of wood panels and bronze-finished archways. Here, spotlights embedded in the arches form a gentle layer of ambient light above, and diffuse lines of light wash the oak panelling at a lower level to highlight the curvature of the wood.
In the double-height reception that follows, the gaze is instantly drawn upwards to a spectacular backlit vaulted ceiling. Seamlessly engineered to appear as one single composition of light, the ceiling features 24 LED modules that work harmoniously and simulate daylight by transitioning through warm and cool colour temperatures. The vaulted soffit is curved due to way that the backlit fabric is deftly tapered across each segment. This subtle yet impactful detail creates a nuanced quality of light, which emulates the effect of daylight.
Sustainability ApproachThe project team is targeting BREEAM Excellent and WELL Platinum Ready for 80 New Bond Street, so the lighting scheme complies with the criteria for each accreditation. The team used high quality LED luminaires to reduce energy consumption and employed a control system with a range of scenes to allow light levels to be appropriately balanced and dimmed in accordance with the time of day.
