Entry Description

Lighting design for landscape lighting in a remote island is like painting a blank canvas. Darkness is the canvas and light the paint. For this project, we needed very little lighting to make a huge impact. Touches of light on the palms, stone walkways, and soft architectural features gave a fresh look to this renovated property.

The Sheraton is located in Puerto Princesa Palawan. One of the most pristine and breathtaking islands of the Philippines. Set against limestone cliffs and lush greenery the landscape lighting strategy is to create a rich and luxurious environment through warm and controlled light, use of shadow, while respecting the lighting preferences of Philippine culture. The lawns and flow spaces are lit with laser cut bollards that cast foliage patterns on the floor. Seating and deck areas combine high contrast downlights and wall lights to bring out the warm timber finishes. The main feature is the pool area where the rhythmic pattern of the facade lighting is reflected onto the water creating a striking visual contrast. The objective was to create drama while respecting the need for sufficient lighting for safety and security. The environment is where guests can relax, feel comfortable, and secure.
