Entry DescriptionHikari is a collapsible paper lamp that aids in the routine of winding down. Its umbrella-like structure allows for the shade to expand and contract, providing adjustable brightness through a simple push or pull. The shade, made from sewn panels of washi paper, helps to diffuse light into a soft, soothing glow. With its simplistic pleated pattern and natural composition, Hikari provides a comforting ambiance to any living space.
Sustainability ApproachSustainability was a major influence in material selection. Washi paper, used to create the light shade, is a natural and biodegradable yet durable material. The main structure of Hikari is to be made entirely from wood, including both the interior housing and its decorative outer slats. The moving mechanism within the light works without machine parts, instead, it functions from a cotton thread that loops through each bamboo slat of the shade.
