Entry DescriptionThis project encompasses light art and lighting design for a San Francisco gallery. The design draws inspiration from nature, specifically the deep canyons of the Southwest and the nautilus pattern, symbolizing growth, expansion, and renewal.
To evoke a sense of exploration throughout the gallery space, I recreated natural lighting effects. The entire environment is dimly lit with recessed lighting, creating soft, diffused illumination. Strategically placed backlit surfaces mimic the glow of sunlight filtering through rock crevices, enhancing the sense of depth and mystery.
The reception area exudes a dark atmosphere, inviting visitors into a journey of discovery. Subtle, ambient lighting guides visitors through the space. Patterns of light lead them into the main gallery, where an organic glass sculpture is suspended above a pool of water.
In contrast, Gallery 1 features a narrow sculptural space with dramatic lighting that evokes the grandeur of canyon landscapes. Intense, focused beams of light create sharp contrasts and deep shadows, simulating the striking interplay of light and darkness found in natural canyons.
I aimed to create a lighting design that immerses visitors in a serene, nature-inspired experience. By replicating natural lighting effects, the design fosters a deep connection to the natural world, enriching the overall aesthetic impact of the gallery.
