Entry DescriptionPlayful, poetic, and sculptural, On The Wing is a theatrical lighting piece inspired by one of the most spectacular sights in nature – a murmuration of starlings in flight.
Based on an original Nulty Bespoke commission, the intricate installation comprises multiple hand-formed glass birds, which are suspended from the ceiling at varying heights to recreate the shape and movement of birds flying as one.
The individual elements are hand pulled when the glass is still molten to produce the shape of a bird’s wings, then dipped into water to achieve a crackled effect that catches the light and produces a shimmering effect throughout the surrounding space. The handmade nature of the process means that no two birds are the same - a defining detail that enhances the character and originality of the final piece.
On The Wing is available from Collections by Nulty Bespoke, a beautifully curated range of the studio’s most successful luminaire designs, now available as standard pieces. The collection includes a selection of composition options, designed to complement intimate and grand dining schemes, along with staircases where a longer drop height is required.
