Entry DescriptionWe were commissioned by the interior designer Tristan Auer to conceive and construct a monumental, bespoke chandelier for the iconic Carlton Hotel in Cannes.
The luxury hotel has just completed a full refurbishment over the past 5 years, celebrating their reopening last summer by hosting the 2023 Cannes Festival opening dinner.
The Hotel sought a central lighting feature and sculpture to be placed within its main staircase, directly visible from the front lobby to attract attention and invigorate the space. This central piece pays homage to the hotel's art deco heritage through its graphic design while adopting a modern, minimalist approach. The chandelier's asymmetrical, crystal-like structure and its spectrum of hues ensure that with each step up the staircase, the perspective shifts, offering a distinct visual experience from every angle.
The chandelier, an assembly of 12 cubic volumes, stands out with its steel frame and frosted, colored, opalescent laminated glass panels in various shades of pink. LED strips tucked within each module create a diffuse glow, illuminating each glass panel with a soft radiance.
This creation is an imposing 7 meters tall for 700 kilograms, but despite its substantial size, the assembly was orchestrated from within the volumes, ensuring a clean and minimalist design. The 12 modules are constructed with invisible, concealed access panels.
