Entry Description

The "Path to Serene Light - Chih-nan Temple Bamboo and Cypress Path Lighting Renovation" is an innovative project that blends environmental conservation and cultural heritage preservation. Located in the historic Wenshan District of Taipei, this project aims to improve the night-time atmosphere of the ancient path through sustainable lighting design, while highlighting the path’s unique natural and historical features. The project not only aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) but also localizes these goals through environmental protection and cultural education. The design draws inspiration from a deep understanding of the local ecology. To respect nocturnal species such as the Orange-banded Moth, low-color temperature LED lights are used to minimize ecological interference. Time-controlled lighting ensures non-essential lights are turned off after 9 PM, further preserving the natural rhythms of nocturnal life. This supports biodiversity conservation (Goal 15) and reduces energy consumption (Goal 7). Additionally, the chosen LED fixtures are high-efficiency, long-lasting, and weather-resistant (IP65), ensuring that the lighting system can endure Taipei's variable climate while minimizing maintenance and waste, reflecting responsible consumption and production (Goal 12). The design respects the path’s natural and historical essence, reviving Japane
Sustainability Approach

The project employs sustainable lighting practices to minimize ecological disruption by using low-color temperature LED lights, protecting nocturnal species like the Orange-banded Moth. Time-controlled technology ensures non-essential lights are switched off after 9 PM, conserving energy and preserving biodiversity (Goal 15). The energy-efficient, durable LED lights are certified to withstand Taipei's variable weather (IP65), reducing waste and maintenance costs, supporting responsible consumption and production (Goal 12). By integrating ecological and educational elements, the lighting system provides visitors an interactive nighttime experience that promotes sustainability awareness while conserving energy and resources (Goal 7).
