Entry Description

The design goal behind Cinesational was to showcase fountains and projections, while still allowing lighting to have its own voice. At times, lighting takes a supporting role, coloring fountains at their highest peaks while still pushing texture through the water in ways we’ve never done before. Other times, lights take center stage, hitting every beat of the composition to build a light show spectacular. Lighting filled the whole spectacular, taking Cinesational to the next level.
Sustainability Approach

In previous years at Universal Studios Orlando, we used fixtures that were not rated for outdoor use and had to re-lamp them yearly. During this show, we changed that, updating nearly every fixture to be outdoor rated. This made it possible to eliminate our Tempest Domes, which significantly cut down on maintenance requirements and power usage. For example, we used the Elation Proteus Maximus instead of our old Robe BMFLs, which has an LED Engine, cutting down on the amount of lamps that would need replacement.

In an effort to minimize new infrastructure builds, each fixture position was reused from previous shows. We were able to reuse all fixtures and positions in the viewing area. The new lighting positions that were added coincided with old positions so we would have as little impact on existing infrastructure as possible.
