Entry DescriptionThe Moving Hues is a collaborative light art installation at DesignUru.
DesignUru, is a design festival in the city of Bangalore by IIID promotes design experience in public spaces and engages communities positively.
Situated on Rangoli Metro Station Boulevard, a transition point for people.This light installation is an experimental addition to urban streetscape.It creatively employs sheer fabric to explore the play of light from dawn to dusk. Navigating through a portal-like 4 grid. It allows people to pause, & experience the space from within.
The central void, referred to as“A palanquin of color”, encourages personal interaction with light,this area imparts a profound message “you become who you surround yourself with.”
DAY-the structure looks lightweight and airy due to the repetitive and harmonious use of white sheer fabric.
NIGHT-the fabric diffuses lights of various hues within and around the installation making it look like a glowing box from across the road. This positively acquaints the community with the public space through the medium of light art installation, making it a successful temporary Urban Insert.
The global lighting community was invited through Instagram to make it more engaging, interactive, and inclusive.The Vibrant and changing colors and hues of the installation capture the true essence of Bangalore City which is a melting pot of multiculturalism.
Sustainability ApproachThe framework is made of mild steel and a modular style setup, allowing easy installation and dismantling. The idea behind this installation was to have it move from place to place easily. The complete structure can be refitted and adapted to different spaces. The fabric was sourced from a vendor who had unused leftover fabric in his warehouse. The light installation is on smart controls which allow it to dim down and keep it low to avoid light pollution.
