Entry DescriptionNacional Monte de Piedad is an emblematic, public and cultural building with an area of 80,000m2, representative of the Spanish colony in Mexico, also important for the recovery of prehispanic roots with the use of the reproduction of the ancient quarry of the area, manifesting the age and historical principle of the building.
In the remodeling of Monte de Piedad's headquarters, we proposed to intervene in each space in a careful and punctual manner, highlighting nuances and colors of the materials, in functional areas complying with the appropriate levels of light to perform tasks and in common spaces generating environments that allow clear visibility of the architectural forms.
In the central courtyard, a dynamic roof was proposed as an element of aesthetic strength, which was worked on together with the plastic artist Vicente Rojo.
The vision of lighteam was to seek a luminous and contemplative element that would play a role in the social and cultural life of Mexico.
The use of geometric elements was the basis for the aesthetic construction of the work; our team gave cause with color and light, vital pieces to convey a reflection that motivated change, challenge and movement. CMY technology was used to propose a palette of tones such as grape, peach, lemon, cherry and banana. RGB technology was not used.
Sustainability ApproachDuring the remodeling of the building, all the lighting fixtures of the project were changed to LED technology (energy saving), with equipment of national origin. Satisfactory power densities below those recommended by ASHRAE were achieved.
The lighting equipment is easy to maintain and replace; special attention was paid to reducing glare and controlling optics, in addition to the maximum color rendering index in the light.
The building is fully automated with the use of photo sensors, presence sensors, time control, dimmable luminaires to regulate the intensity throughout the day, and a DMX system and several scenes with different movement sequences to control the central courtyard.
