Entry DescriptionThe new Jil Sander flagship store, located on the fashionable New Bond Street London in London, unfolds as a monolithic space, seemingly sculpted from a single piece of stone. Central to this project is a deep focus on materiality, with thoughtfully designed lighting revealing the diverse textures of the surfaces and enriching the sensory experience. This approach strives to create an atmosphere rather than mere architecture, a theme that unifies the two levels of the store through their distinct lighting designs.
On the ground floor, soft, natural-like lighting is ingeniously crafted to illuminate the space as if it were an artist’s studio, fostering a bright, airy atmosphere with subdued shadows and an intimate ambiance. The material of the baffled backlit ceiling dramatically alters the overall impression of the area. In contrast, the lower floor enhances a deeper intimacy, featuring lighting subtly integrated within domes that seem to be carved directly from the ceiling.
The overall lighting strategy skillfully balances light levels with soft contrasts and accents that highlight the products. The selected color temperature of 3500K not only cultivates a sense of intimacy but also accentuates the distinctive blue tone of the travertine, emphasizing its unique character. This meticulous approach ensures a calm and elegant ambiance without overwhelming the space.
Sustainability ApproachThe lighting fixtures, known for their longevity and excellent performance, align with sustainability through repairable and recyclable components. Simple lighting controls optimize energy use with three settings tailored for day and night cycles, and a curfew setting reduces energy consumption by ensuring lights are off during late hours. This approach emphasizes environmental stewardship in luxury retail.
