Entry DescriptionHangzhou Prism is located in Hangzhou’s Future Tech City, surrounded by the media facade light show of surrounding buildings. The lighting design aims to use pure white light to form a geometric rhythm like prism refraction, creating a futuristic landmark in the dazzling city.
The pyramid-shaped complex comprises two radical oblique cuts through the building envelope, which create terraced lofts. The 4000K white light highlights the terraced form of the building while realizing the light of prism-like refraction. At the same time, new media art is introduced through programming to form a variety of dynamic scenes with a sense of science fiction. The wall-washing linear lights are concealed in the grooves at the end of the balcony walls, which lights up the wall while avoiding glare to the residents.
The 88-meter high atrium is a public activity space for the hotel and apartments. The flashing of optical fibers and the rendering of blue floodlights simulate the galaxy and the twinkling stars, which creates a corner of pure starry sky for residents in the over-illuminated city. The optical fibers with a diameter of 6mm form the zodiac, while the 3mm and 1.5mm optical fibers form the twinkling stars in the background.
Sustainability ApproachTo minimize the use of light fixtures, linear lights are set on each balcony of the main facade, while lights are set only on the edge row of balconies on the secondary facade.
18W/m, 4000K linear lights are used on the balconies, which reduces power consumption by 50% compared with RGBW linear lights.
In daily mode, the dynamic patterns are set with about 50% of the bright area, and energy saving is achieved through pattern setting.
The light source of the light columns adopted 100lm/W high-efficiency LED light strips, which achieved the brightest lighting effect within limited power.
