Entry DescriptionThe lighting design consist of DRD2 Down-lights from DMF Lighting that were custom made for this project, as the luminaires don’t need an internal power supply. Removing the internal driver increases the luminaires longevity, reduces heat generation and eliminates white noise that we normally don’t pay attention to, but is clearly recognizable when it’s not there. This contributes to a relaxed ambiance with better acoustics and deeper rests. The lighting design also features several LED tape lights from Visiolite including the signature Visiolite Vibrance(TM) LED strip for accent lighting in entertainment areas. The Vibrance light source allows for 7 channel color mixing for vibrant colors not achievable with standard RGBW light source. All general lighting boost high color rendering index and R9 that significantly reduces blue light that can impact our melatonin and circadian rhythm.
The Finish based Casambi was selected for lighting controls. Casambi is robust, reliable, and dosn't depend on an Internet connection or gateways. Casambi is a great match for a LVDC infrastructure as it’s natively DC based. The Hargrave installation has over 110 Casambi wireless end points including wall switches and lights that can easily be controlled from wall switches, smart phones or the on-wall tablets.
Sustainability ApproachHargrave Drive has a unique lighting installation that combines high quality light sources with state of the art wireless lighting controls and Low Voltage Direct Current (LVDC) power distribution that today is known as X-PoE.
In principle, the LVDC/X-PoE infrastructure is based on a centralized power source for all lights inside and exterior to the building. This approach has several benefits including high efficiency, lower material use, lower carbon footprint and the option to become fully off grid. The LVDC/X-PoE System uses significantly less materials and achieves over 40% lower embodied carbon. Furthermore it extends longevity of the system to over 30 years vs. traditional 5-7 years lifetime of LED drivers and achieves over 95% efficiency when used with Solar Panels in an off-grid configuration.
