Entry DescriptionThe lighting design for Metro de Santiago's new Line 3 comprises all public areas of 18 subway train stations from the surface plazas around the access Ediculos, through ticketing and mezzanine levels down to passenger platform. This project sets a groundbreaking standard in metro lighting by seamlessly integrating lighting into the architectural elements of the stations. Each station boasts a carefully coordinated system where lighting fixtures are subtly embedded into ceilings, walls, and structural elements, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. This approach transforms the commuter experience, providing a sense of openness, safety, and comfort.
The design maximizes energy efficiency, utilizing state-of-the-art LED technology. Uniform light distribution reduces shadows and glare, while strategic accent lighting highlights key architectural features, such as the Cylindrical "Pique" connecting 3 levels, the platform level tunnels and platform edges. This creates a visually dynamic environment that guides passenger flow.
The lighting integration not only serves its practical purpose but elevates the architectural identity of Line 3, setting a new benchmark for Metro de Santiago by combining innovative design with user-centric solutions.
Sustainability ApproachRegardless Metro de Santiago was not applying for an energy efficiency certification, the project was fully developed under LEED standard parameters of Lighting Power Density to ensure a sustainable solution for such a major public infrastructure development
