Entry DescriptionThis Project aims to revitalize the 1.5 km riverside of Lugang Creek by blending traditional culture with modern design elements. Faced with the challenge of segmenting the area and a limited budget, the design uses themed zones and traditional lantern-style street lights to connect the fragmented sections, ensuring each part has a unique identity and functionality. Key design highlights include the Stage Area, which serves as a public space for events, enhancing the utilization of public areas and fostering community interaction. The Traditional Zone features calligraphy stone carvings and traditional lanterns to evoke the deep cultural roots of Lugang, while the Natural Landscaping Area emphasizes scenic beauty that will evolve with time, adding environmental greenery. Custom lanterns line the walkways, ensuring visual coherence and providing sufficient nighttime illumination, enhancing both safety and aesthetics. The bridge and water stage act as significant visual focal points, blending light and structure to create a modern and functional landmark. By addressing geographical challenges and using creative strategies, the design ensures overall cohesion and continuity. The fusion of culture and modernity emphasizes a harmony between history, human spirit, and sustainable urban environments, reflecting the project's design value and societal significance.
Sustainability ApproachThe Lugang Creek Light Environment Renovation emphasizes sustainability by balancing nature and modern design. Low-energy, high-efficiency LED lighting is used throughout to minimize energy consumption while maintaining functionality. The custom-designed lanterns not only preserve the historical atmosphere but also utilize durable materials, reducing waste and maintenance. The natural landscaping areas focus on green growth, which enhances ecological benefits over time, contributing to environmental balance. The lighting system ensures nighttime safety without over-illumination, reducing light pollution and promoting biodiversity. The project’s design highlights the importance of cultural preservation, while embracing modern sustainable practices.
