Entry Description

Lefkada Townhouse is a modern block of flats - aparthotel in the heart of Lefkada town. It is comprising of 9 flats over 3 floors, atrium, roof terrace and a multifunctional lobby with resident’s café and art display lounge.

The facade is composed by a series of vertical fins that at night create a luminous curtain on the 3 main elevations. The fin illumination is carefully detailed to allow privacy and views out.

Given the residential nature of the project emphasis is given on the prevention of glare for the residents and neighbours as well as minimising light pollution and light glow. The façade lighting is selective and all lighting elements are contained within the architectural fabric.

Honeycomb filters for the narrow beam spotlights (longer facade fins) and integrated vertical louvers for the linear uplights (shorter facade fins) contain and direct light where needed. Smart lighting controls allow for visual hierarchy and a dim down exterior lit effect for late night operation, as a result Townhouse Lefkada has a discreet and elegant nighttime presence.

At ground level trees, selective landscape and decorative features such as the bespoke illuminated signage are highlighted. Most lighting comes from within the building. The upper floors are private while the ground floor is open, transparent and inviting.
Sustainability Approach

Capitalising the building design by integrating lighting between and in between the vertical façade fins, exterior lighting is minimal and understated. This results in a low carbon, energy efficient façade illumination. The lighting consumption for the 3-storey building façade is 240W for all linear concealed LED uplighting (12W/m x 2.5m x 8 lengths) + 72W for all narrow beam spotlights (9W x 8 units) = 312W. The total façade area is approx. 336sq.m so the consumption is less than 1 W/ sq.m.

Townhouse Lefkada facade lighting is a testament that less is more. Energy efficiency aside, less light when carefully applied can also be visually interesting and impactful.
