Entry Description

This chapel was built as a gift from a generous landowner in Tayap, who recognized the community’s need for a local place of worship. Wanting to give back, the landowner donated this beautifully designed chapel, creating a welcoming space for locals to worship, and gather.

Ar. Tonyboy Legaspi embraced traditional materials and sustainable design. The chapel features bamboo, antique hardwood, and a roof crafted from cogon grass, blending seamlessly with the natural landscape. Set against a backdrop of mountains and hills, the structure feels both welcoming and serene. The steeply pitched roof and intricately carved wooden doors strike a balance between rustic charm and cultural refinement. Large open windows invite the surrounding views to become part of the interior experience.

A key part of the project was to reduce light pollution and preserve the night sky. The lighting fixtures are carefully hidden from view, and highlights certain architectural features . This design preserves the natural beauty of the night sky while maintaining the chapel’s peaceful ambiance. Inside, warm-toned lighting highlights the bamboo ceiling, while chandeliers softly illuminate the space, creating a serene atmosphere for worship. Outside, uplights accentuate the chapel's wooden facade, enhancing its detailed craftsmanship without overpowering the natural environment.
