Entry DescriptionThe lighting design for this private residence masterfully blends form and function, emphasizing soft yet accentuating illumination for each art piece throughout the home. With the owner being an avid art collector, our goal was to highlight each individual art work while cohesively illuminating the whole space, making the architecture feel like the most intricate art piece in and of itself.
This vision is realized through a custom light panels featuring rice paper and glass overlay, integrated seamlessly into the top of a bookrail in the library as well as a credenza in the dining room. The diffused light from the rice paper panels cast a warm glow that enhances the curated collections of handmade sculptures and books, while adding a unique sculptural quality to the millwork pieces themselves.
Track-mounted monopoints offer flexibility for an evolving art program, providing the ideal illumination and placement of light for the ever-rotating art displays. Miniature strip lights placed in thoughtful ways that completely conceal the source of light keep the eye focused on the warm tones of the wood and the beautiful wood grains they are meant to accentuate.
Additionally, warm color temperature linear lights are artfully positioned along the entire second story transom window, starting and stopping at each rafter to ensure an overall softness creating a glow visible from outside.
Sustainability ApproachOur sustainability mission prioritizes the use of energy-efficient lighting solutions that align with contemporary environmental standards. All specified lighting fixtures are LED, ensuring they not only meet but exceed energy efficiency codes. By incorporating advanced dimming capabilities and meticulously adjusting dim curves within the programming, we significantly reduce power consumption from the grid. This thoughtful approach minimizes our ecological footprint while maintaining the desired ambiance for those who experience the spaces.
