Entry Description“Persephone Reconsiders Her Fate” was a dance performance that incorporated light and projection in an equal role.
The choreography draws inspiration from the myth of Persephone, renegotiating and subverting it. All the dancers were different aspects of Persephone’s personality.
The lighting design’s intention was to create an atmosphere of the in-between world of living and the underworld. The vibrant world of Persephone's life on Earth was represented with warm colors of light while through light and projection we dove into the subconscious mind or underworld darkness in a symbolic way. The projection was projected on Logos - a ship lying for decades there and served as the set of the performance, following either the movement of the dancers or the music.
The other abandoned ships in the sea landscape revived through light and projection. Towards the end of the choreography all except one dancers left the stage, stepped in 3 small boats lit by battery operated candles sailed in the sea, while Demetra stood alone in front of the “gate” - a ring light installation, at the edge of the shore waiving goodbye and also waiting for her daughter’s next return. During her expectation the ring changed colors while the stage and the ship transformed into a vivid audiovisual 5’ spectacle with light and projection mapping.
