Entry Description"The Tranquil Charm of a Lingering Moment Provides Solace to Weary Travelers as Their Frenzied Day Concludes"
While Land transportation dominates the modern world, Water transportation through rivers and canals was the life of Bangkokians in the past. The slow journey allows passengers to enjoy the beauty of nature along the way, especially the experience of drifting gently through the mystic mangrove at night. The lighting design of the Aluminum Showrooms, which is located on a very busy traffic hub, intends to recreate the beauty of witnessing natural phenomena, when the moonlit canal was filled with fireflies.
At night, the natural form of the facade transforms into a mangrove with the firefly teasing around. The cool-white light serenely illuminates the building, becoming the moonlight scenery, with linear LED strips concealed inside the protruding aluminum profiles. Amber warm-white LED dots placed at the tips of the aluminum profiles are playfully swung by the air and the vibration created by traffic flow of heavy cargo trucks. The lighting scheme is programmed into three different scenes to match the ever-changing sky and the traffic’s density.
Sustainability ApproachThe project utilized LED technology to minimize energy consumption, as well as time-sensitive controlling of the Façade illumination to optimize the lighting effect and energy uses.
