Entry DescriptionThe new AC hotel in downtown Los Angeles sits within the same building as the Moxy as its complementary counterpart, with a more refined and tailored design approach that evokes an elevated residential ambiance. Guests are made to feel at home in a warm and welcoming atmosphere with lighting that is seamlessly integrated throughout and plays a supporting role in ensuring that materiality of the finishes is allowed to shine, and sculptural moments are enhanced with the necessary contrast, creating a relaxing environment that provides an escape to a home away from home. Integrated and concealed lighting, along with curated selections of decorative lighting throughout the hotel ensure an elevated residential ambiance is achieved. Balancing the high contrast nature of the Moxy, the AC seeks to create a relaxed environment that invites guests to lounge and escape the hustle and bustle of downtown Los Angeles.
Sustainability ApproachCalifornia’s energy code is one of strictest in the world, and it was important to ensure that fixture specifications and utilisations not only met these parameters, but exceeded them without sacrificing the experiential quality of the design. Not only are specified lighting fixtures using the latest available technology to ensure highest levels of energy efficiency, their placement throughout the hotel seeks to maximise the effect achievable with the minimum amount of fixtures. Additionally, conscious specification of locally sourced lighting fixtures sought to minimise the overall carbon footprint and impact on the environment.
