Entry Description

The Aloft hotels were conceived to be different, by design. This soul has been craftily handled in the interior design by Studio Lotus - a firm whose own work resounds with the hotel's philosophy. The lighting design is best described as "understated, underlying and serving to bring out the interior design thinking". By developing the lighting for indoors and exterior areas in unison, it was ensured that vision is extended outwards, stopping to give emphasis on the reception, extending the space-feel. Care was taken to keep any lighting away from the perimeters to avoid reflections in the glass and create intimacy through chandeliers over seating groups in an otherwise large volume. The lighting levels are pumped up during the day to keep up with the daylight streaming in. By dusk, the light sources are dimmed to create a relaxed setting. In the entire hotel, where art and color preside over an otherwise rather neutral canvas of a space, the general lighting is infact played down.
